Steel cut oats are a morning staple we love. And not just any steel cut oats will do. We will only eat McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal. Sure it takes 20-30 minutes to cook, making it a bit inconvenient for rushed mornings. But the meaty texture and nutty flavor profile makes this thirty minutes well spent.
If leisurely mornings aren’t your thing, there’s no need to panic. Here are our simple cooking hacks to almost “instant” steel cut Irish oatmeal:
Cook your oatmeal according to package instructions the night (or days) before—these oats will keep in the refrigerator for up to seven days. Merely reheat in the microwave with a little added water or milk.
Soak your steel cut Irish oats in water overnight and reduce the suggested cooking time by 1/2 the next morning.
